GEOLOGY. Purbeck stone is a hard, durable Jurassic/Cretaceous sedimentary limestone formed around 130-140 million years ago. There is a long history of quarrying this stone in the Isle of Purbeck, situated on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in East Dorset.
